“At the beginning of the 15th century with the influx of European objects to Africa, African artists responded by transforming the belongings of the other into their own. The Chokwe and Akan tribes by example began to use European chairs in the “ritual of life”; Over time the chairs became a notable part of the ritual. This action from the Chokwe and Akan Tribes transformed the power of the oppressor to their own.”
